Job Description

AM Batteries is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer/Purchasing Lead to set up and handle our company’s procurement activities. In this role you will be responsible for purchasing and negotiating materials, equipment, and supplies with various entities, developing and implementing purchasing strategies, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and tracking supplier performance, etc. This position supports a growing business and has responsibility for driving competitive supply cost, quality, and delivery. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, able to work independently with excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills as well as a strong understanding of supply chain management.

Responsibilities

  • Create, place, and maintain purchase orders.
  • Issue requests for quotes/proposals (RFP/RFQ) with domestic and international suppliers and select best source, consistent with cost, quality, and delivery requirements.
  • Negotiate and manage long-term pricing agreements on critical commodities.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels consistent with targeted inventory goals.
  • Establish and maintain vendor relationships while monitoring supplier performance and compliance with contractual obligations insuring best pricing, delivery, and quality.
  • Implement sound purchasing principles that include T&Cs and purchasing notes.
  • Help select and implement an ERP/MRP system.
  • Maintain accuracy of ERP/MRP part master databases within ERP/MRP system, including lead-time, pricing, current supplier information, current purchase order data, etc.
  • Manage safety stock items in ERP/MRP system to include Safety Stock setup and maintenance.
  • Communicate with other departments on various projects and order statuses.
  • Work with vendors concerning over-shipments, delivery shortages, delivery dates and quality.
  • Process non-conforming material and RMA requires with vendors.
  • Kit, package, and ship materials as needed via FedEx, DHL, and trucking services.
  • Evaluate and report on key vendor performance and drive improvement.
  • Manage in-house inventories as well as offsite inventory held by suppliers.
  • Work with vendors concerning over shipments, delivery shortages, delivery dates and quality.
  • Vet current supplier base, research potential suppliers, and develop second sources as required to ensure supply of materials and base cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Ensure that the organization’s purchasing policies and procedures are followed.
  • Have the ability and flexibility to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as requested by management.

Required Qualifications

  • 5-10 years as a Sr. Buyer.
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, or a technical field preferred.
  • CPM, CPIM certification a plus.
  • Must be able to read and interpret technical/engineering drawings and schematics, including GD&T, to clearly understand required specifications.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment with significant experience working with electro-mechanical products as well as sheet metal, castings, weldments, wire harnesses.
  • Experience working withing an ERP/MRP system is essential. Experience selecting and implementing ERP/MRP system a plus.
  • Global supply chain experience.
  • Proven negotiation skills and cost reduction successes.
  • Ability to lead and work independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • High-level of proficiency in Microsoft Office.
