JOB DESCRIPTION:

AM Batteries (AMB) is seeking a highly motivated Principal Powder Processing Equipment Engineer to design, implement, and support critical components of our battery manufacturing technology. A strong background in the design, procurement, implementation, optimization, and maintenance of dry bulk powder handling and mixing is required. The successful candidate will be a dynamic, self-driven professional with a track record of successful technology development and project execution. We expect the candidate to quickly integrate with our team and engage deeply in hands-on work within a start-up environment characterized by rapid technological advancements. This role requires direct interaction with the internal engineering and R&D teams, product development, strategic partners, suppliers, & contractors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Equipment & Process Development:
    • Lead the design, development, and implementation of powder processing equipment systems: bulk handling, conveying, mixing, sieving/screening, and metering systems
    • Drive equipment and process innovation efforts with strategic suppliers
    • Manage capital deployment projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring on-time and on budget delivery
    • Conduct technical diligence and feasibility studies for new technologies
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, quality, and compliance to optimize equipment performance and ensure designs comport to safety and compliance standards
  • Life Cycle Engineering:
    • Ensure safety and compliance in the design and operation or the systems for in-house use and for partner/customer sites in the US, EU, APAC
    • Provide strategic guidance in equipment design and selection to optimize cost benefit vs capability, while maintaining safety and compliance
    • Support compliance certification of AMB turn-key systems for powder processing
    • Develop and maintain detailed projects plans, technical specifications, and supporting documentation
    • Ensure equipment systems are designed, implemented, and maintained for high reliability and uptime
    • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to internal teams and customers
    • Provide equipment expertise to align the product development roadmap in relation to capability, reliability, safety, and cost benefit

  • Mentorship and Training:
    • Mentor and guide AMB personnel, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
    • Train AMB engineers and technicians on industry best practices and equipment operation

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Holds a BS degree or higher in science or engineering, with extensive knowledge of fine powder handling and mixing equipment
  • 10+ years of experience designing and implementing powder processing equipment involved in pneumatic conveyance (dilute and dense), mechanical conveyance (screw feeders, belt feeders, tubular cable conveyors), high shear mixers, weigh batching systems, and automation
  • Working knowledge of standards and regulations for combustible and toxic powders (e.g., ATEX, NFPA 652/654)
  • Familiarity with top global suppliers of dry bulk handling equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects essential to driving new technology toward commercialization
  • Possess exceptional problem-solving skills; detail-oriented and methodical
  • Proficient with CAD, project management, and documentation tools
  • Understanding of lean principles and operational excellence
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally to support project implementation (10-25% of time)
