Spacecraft represent the most pressing unmet need across the entire aerospace industry. As more launch vehicles come online and the cost to orbit decreases, more companies launching payloads to space continue to emerge.

For the first time in history, this influx of payload companies combined with reduced launch costs has resulted in a massive increase in need for commercial spacecraft platforms, known as satellite buses. These buses hold the payloads of our customers and are flown on launch vehicles.

Apex manufactures these satellite buses at scale using a combination of software, vertical integration, and hardware that is designed for manufacturing. Our spacecraft enable the future of society: ranging from earth observation to communications and more.

About the Role

Based out of our Corporate HQ in Los Angeles, this role reports directly to our CFO. You will join a dynamic Finance team with the opportunity to build the Commercial Finance function and directly impact the Company’s financial success. The role will have diverse responsibility spanning core FP&A activities, financial analyses, and presenting key insights and recommendations to the Leadership Team. Strategically, this role will impact pricing decisions as well as evaluate individual deal economics and go-to-market strategies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong financial pedigree, excellent leadership and problem solving skills, experience partnering cross functionally with all levels of the organization, adept at working with large, complicated data sets and prior experience building a high functioning organization.

Your Day to Day

  • You will lead all Commercial Finance activities, including but not limited to:

    • Evaluating the economic impact of large, complex sales contracts

    • Analyzing and reporting on the Company’s sales pipeline/bookings

    • Assessing profitability trends of monthly and quarterly bookings

    • Participating in organization-wide pricing and go-to-market discussions

  • You will assist with developing Board and C-Team presentations

  • You will support planning, forecasting and reporting processes across Apex, including but not limited to providing periodic business updates, short-and long term demand planning, and annual budgeting

  • You will support all new ventures finance and de novo go-to-market strategies

  • You will partner with leaders across the organization to refine strategic outlooks and support funding requests

  • You will leverage technology to drive efficiencies across the finance and accounting functions and provide insightful real-time information to business partners to ensure delivery of Bookings/Revenue/EBITDA goals

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in Finance or Accounting roles

  • Experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

  • Strong attention to detail and creative problem solving skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills

  • Experience working with dimensional databases, data warehouses and data visualization platforms (PowerBI, SharePoint, Tableau)

  • Hands-on leader with a track record of managing cross-functional teams


Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting

  • Analytical acumen with a commitment to excellence and a passion for learning the nuances of the business

  • Ability to prioritize and lead multiple tasks/assignments simultaneously

  • Inquisitive, self-starter with a demonstrated ability to learn and adapt quickly

  • A mix of professional experience across both large and small companies

  • Track record of making strategic recommendations and designing processes around ambiguous or incomplete data
