About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Director of Project Engineering to join our Projects team. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams and collaborate with CO280’s Project Development team to ensure all technical and engineering aspects of projects are successfully completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. If you want to build big carbon capture projects that will have a positive impact on the climate, you might be the person we’re looking for.

About the Company

CO280 is a leading developer of large carbon dioxide removal (CDR) projects with more than 10 megatons per year of CDR under development. CO280 develops, finances, owns and operates projects that capture and sequester biogenic CO2 emissions from pulp and paper mills. The resulting CDR credits are sold to corporate buyers in the voluntary carbon market. We call this BioDAC.

Unlike many other carbon capture projects, CO280’s BioDAC projects are revenue generating and profitable. Our projects transform the economics of the pulp and paper industry while providing a pathway to pulp mill decarbonization. The key to our approach is creating powerful partnerships to develop and execute BioDAC projects across a new value chain of partners including pulp and paper companies, capture technology suppliers, EPCs, transport and storage providers, CDR buyers, and project investors. We are a world-class team with deep climate tech, clean tech, and energy project experience.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project execution plans, schedules, reports, and budgets; proactively identify and mitigate risks.

  • Effectively communicate technical project details to relevant partners and stakeholders throughout the project due diligence, development, and execution processes.

  • Develop and control process flow diagrams, mass and energy balances, and other technical documentation required to support successful execution of carbon removal projects.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, technicians, contractors, and external stakeholders as required during project cycle.

  • Model technical scenarios for pulp and paper mills decarbonization pathways.

  • Oversee options assessment for digital measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) platform, and model technical scenarios for the digital MRV pathways.

  • Ensure carbon capture projects comply with all relevant regulations, codes, and standards.

  • Monitor project progress and performance and provide regular updates to the senior leadership team.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance project delivery efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Conduct and support feasibility studies and technical analyses to evaluate the viability of new carbon capture project opportunities.

  • Stay up to date with the latest advancements in carbon capture technologies and processes and share knowledge with the broader team.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 10+ years of relevant hand-on experience in project management in pulp and paper mills or on decarbonization projects at plant level; exposure to carbon capture or biomass renewable energy is preferred.

  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex, multi-stakeholder projects on time and within budget.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills; ability to effectively interface with sophisticated customers and partners.

  • Strong technical understanding of the biomass fueled combined heat and power systems and carbon capture technologies and processes.

  • Proficient in project management and industrial process engineering tools.

  • PMP or other relevant project management certification is preferred.

  • Willingness to travel to project sites for extended periods as needed.

Join our dynamic team in a critical leadership role to radically alter the trajectory of climate change.
