Overview
We are looking for a talented Counsel to join our small team of legal professionals and support a broad range of commercial and corporate transactions. You will work directly with the business, serving as counsel on strategic issues and deals, providing day-to-day input on business and strategy, and resolving issues that arise in commercial relationships. While drafting, negotiating, and advising on a large volume of commercial agreements, you will consider IP licensing, compliance, regulatory, safety, and privacy issues. You will develop strategies for handling legal issues in creative, business-centric ways, and will build processes that address risk and allow the business flexibility and freedom to move quickly.
Responsibilities
- Review, draft, and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts at all stages of the transaction lifecycle, including master service agreements, letters of intent, term sheets, purchase agreements, vendor agreements, NDAs, SaaS agreements, leases, construction agreements, and marketing agreements.
- Partner with business teams to provide advice and creative solutions to complex problems.
- Manage relationships with outside counsel or other service providers.
- Collaborate with business, finance, tax and other teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Support continually improving form agreements, playbooks, and legal tools.
Required
- 5+ years of commercial legal experience at law firms or fast-paced technology companies.
- JD from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in at least one US state (CA preferred).

- Effective manager of multiple, time-sensitive tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Independent worker with confidence and flexibility to operate in a rapidly changing business.
- Demonstrated experience advising on cross-border and international transactions, including structuring and negotiating commercial agreements and supporting international operations.
- Interest in working on a broad range of issues, including joint ventures, strategic partnerships, real estate, construction, and operating agreements.
- Clear communicator, team-oriented, willing to take initiative.
- Experience using contract management systems, such as IronClad repository.
Additional Information
Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $131,300 - $204,100/year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
