Joby Overview

Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service.

Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented State and Local Government Affairs Manager – East to lead stakeholder engagement and policy initiatives in key East Coast markets, with a special near-term focus on coordinating Joby’s participation in the FAA’s Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing & Advanced Air Mobility Aircraft Integration Pilot Program (eIPP).

In this role, you will help implement Joby’s government affairs strategies to support the company’s electric air taxi operations and infrastructure planning, while also serving as project lead for Joby’s eIPP application process. This is a high-impact position that combines policy engagement, strategic coordination, and cross-functional project management.

This position reports to the Head of U.S. Strategic Policy and plays a key role in developing and executing Joby’s national, state, and local government affairs strategy, monitoring policy developments, coordinating outreach, and supporting initiatives that advance Joby’s market readiness and regulatory progress.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute government engagement strategies across priority East Coast regions.

  • Build and maintain relationships with state and local elected officials, transportation agencies, and community leaders to support Joby’s operational goals.

  • Monitor legislation, regulatory activity, and policy trends relevant to Joby’s business interests in target markets.

  • Coordinate meetings, briefings, and site visits with public officials and key stakeholders.

  • Contribute to policy analysis, briefing materials, and presentations for internal and external use.

  • Collaborate across Joby teams—including Air Operations, Business Development, Marketing & Communications, and Legal—to ensure alignment of priorities.

  • Represent Joby at key events, association meetings, conferences, and public forums.

eIPP Project Leadership (October–December 2025)

  • Serve as project manager for Joby’s eIPP application to the FAA.

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive project plan, task tracker, and submission timeline.

  • Coordinate inputs across engineering, policy, legal, finance, operations, and executive leadership teams.

  • Support partnership formation and documentation for required public–private collaboration components.

  • Compile and assemble all application materials—technical, financial, and narrative—ensuring compliance with FAA requirements.

  • Provide weekly written progress reports and bi-weekly executive briefings.

  • Deliver a complete internal draft of the application by December 1, 2025, ensuring final submission by December 11, 2025 (3:00 p.m. ET).

Required

  • At least 5 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, or related fields.

  • Direct experience working with or within state and local governments, particularly in transportation or infrastructure sectors.

  • Strong project management skills, with proven success leading cross-functional initiatives on tight timelines.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building abilities.

  • Demonstrated experience managing consultants, partnerships, or interagency collaborations.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively across disciplines.

  • Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time.

Desired

  • Enthusiastic about transformative transportation technologies and their policy implications.

  • A clear communicator who enjoys building relationships and solving complex problems.

  • Organized, proactive, and comfortable working across technical and policy domains.

  • Adaptable and energized by the challenge of helping shape a new industry.

  • Committed to professionalism, integrity, and collaboration in every engagement.
