Overview
We are seeking a motivated individual with leadership and technical experience to join our team as an AFP Supervisor. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the AFP team that operates and help to maintain the AFP (Automatic Fiber Placement) machines to ensure quality, safety and efficiency are consistently met. Job duties include managing build schedule, ensuring proper PMs are in place and scheduled, support management of material cure-by dates, FMDS metric reporting, monitoring workflow and compliance to requirements, resource management to meet production demand, and developing team to enhance skill levels. This role requires strong leadership, the ability to work well under pressure, a deep understanding of AFP operations, demonstration of role model behavior, and high attention to detail and record maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily AFP operations by assigning tasks, balancing workloads, and ensuring all AFP cells are fully utilized to meet production targets.
- Ensure consistent execution across all shifts with clear communication of priorities and expectations.
- Support hands-on operations, including loading and unloading composite parts into AFP work cells, ensuring proper positioning and secure setup for quality layup.
- Ensure adherence to standardized work, engineering requirements, and layup specifications.
- Verify layup requirements are met with programs and establish robust visual controls for monitoring protocols
- Assist in coordinating and conducting routine maintenance tasks on the AFP equipment, including cleaning, calibration, and troubleshooting minor issues. Escalate equipment issues promptly to minimize downtime and production impact
- Establish a strict adherence to safety guidelines for the team to follow and routine audits are in place to support a safe work environment.
- Develop work center to meet Safety, Quality, Productivity and 4S+S requirements and hands-on involvement in training.
- Track, analyze, and report team performance metrics (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, and 4S+S) using FMDS
- Lead root cause analysis efforts to identify and eliminate process failures and implement corrective and preventive actions to close system gaps and prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with Equipment Maintenance team to ensure PMs are being completed on a timely basis.
- Resource management and capacity planning for current and future demand
- Ensure materials are properly handled and managed to preserve outlife and cure-by-date.
- Continuously improve the process through process development and reduce cycle time.
- Drive accountability for first-time quality and reduce defects through proactive process management.
Required
- Flexibility to support with overtime and weekend work
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- 1-3 years of hands-on composite manufacturing experience or AFP experience
- 1-3 years of supervisory or lead experience; strong leadership and team management skills in a production environment
- Familiarity with AFP operations, including loading/unloading materials, process adjustment, and monitoring.
- Basic understanding of composite materials and their curing requirements.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing systems, quality standards, and safety protocols.
- Ability to balance hands-on technical support with strategic operational oversight.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications and follow written instructions.
- Able to lift assemblies weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Able to become certified to wear a respirator.
- Have no known allergies to epoxies or other composites materials.
Desired
- Associate degree from a college or Trade School Certificate
- Computer Numerical Control (CNC) experience. Bonus: Experience in 5Axis CNC Machines
- Fabrication and Welding experience
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment
- Experience in a high-volume production environment that relies on a well-defined process to achieve maximum efficiency.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing or 5S environments.
The target base pay for this position is s $75,800 - $117,400/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
