At Stoke, we believe a thriving space economy will enable a vibrant, sustainable, and equitable future here on Earth. That is why we’re building Nova, our fully and rapidly reusable launch vehicle. Designed for daily flight, Nova tackles the core challenges of space transportation by reducing cost, increasing availability, and improving reliability. By radically lowering launch costs and increasing flight cadence, we’re helping create a truly scalable space industry.
Our team is mission-driven, collaborative, and empowered to take ownership of their work. If you want to work alongside some of the most dedicated and talented people on Earth, we’d love to have you join us.
Description
Reusable systems are the key to seamlessly connecting Earth and space. As a Dynamic Environments Engineer at Stoke, you will own and define the dynamic environments strategy and be responsible for providing vibration, shock, and acoustic environments for the launch vehicle. This will include analytical work developing physics-based vibroacoustics models, supporting test efforts through instrumentation selection and data reduction, and hands-on support of component tests. You will work closely with other engineers throughout Stoke to accomplish these objectives. You will serve as a technical authority on vibroacoustics, driving decisions and establishing best practices. As part of a small, well-supported team, you will have access to the resources you need to get the job done right while impacting multiple launch vehicle systems simultaneously. You must be ready to stay focused, move fast, self-direct, and learn on the fly.
Responsibilities
- Support engine and structural tests through instrumentation selection, placement, and data review to characterize dynamic environments (vibration, shock, acoustics)
- Own and drive development of dynamic environment requirements across the vehicle, including test and modeling efforts
- Own and develop component test levels and support component qualification vibe and shock campaigns by providing hands-on execution support and review of test data
- Define acoustic and structure-borne forcing functions for driving flight vibroacoustic events
- Develop finite element models for modal and vibroacoustic models
- Use vibroacoustic analysis software to develop models, reduce data, and perform vibration and acoustic analysis
- Develop data reduction and analysis tools and templates to improve efficiency of dynamic environments analysis
- Drive cross-functional teams to improve designs and tests based on vibroacoustics
- Document best practices and lessons learned
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field
- 8+ years of professional experience
- 5+ years of experience in dynamic environments or structural dynamics
- Experience with NASTRAN or similar for dynamic analyses, especially modal
- Experience predicting environments with vibroacoustic analysis software such as Wave6 or VAOne
- Programming skills in MATLAB or Python
- Strong fundamentals in structural dynamics and vibroacoustics
- Hands-on experience with accelerometers and data acquisition systems
- Mentor junior engineers and REs
- Ability to lead vibroacoustics efforts across the vehicle system
- Ability to follow and work well in a team
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field
- Familiarity with aerospace testing standards (SMC-S-016, GEVS, etc)
- Experience with launch vehicle or rocket engine dynamic environments
- Experience defining and refining acoustic forcing functions related to plume acoustics and aero-acoustics
