Job Summary: Syzygy Plasmonics Inc. is hiring an Instrument & Electrical Engineer to contribute to the design, development, and testing of electrical equipment, components, or systems.  Applies mathematical and engineering principles and methods to electrical designs.  In this role, you will work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to test and troubleshoot photocatalysts and photocatalytic reactors. In doing so, this person will directly contribute towards the development of Syzygy’s revolutionary new technology and drive sustainability in the chemical manufacturing industry.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Create instrument list using P&IDs
  • Define instrument specifications based on application requirements
  • Obtain quotes for instruments and electrical equipment for hazardous and non-hazardous environments
  • Create/approve data sheets
  • Develop electrical shematics and drawings
  • Proficient at reading area classification drawings
  • Review/approve third party electrical and panel/cabinet layout & design drawings
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical/instrument assemblies/sub-assemblies
  • Ability to provide technical support to technicians
  • Provide support during installation and commissioning
  • Assess HSE risks and provide recommendations for safe design and operation
  • Interface with R&D, installation, operations, and third-party personnel for project support
  • Maintain records of all conceptual design work, “as-built”

Minimum requirements:

  • Electrical Engineer degree or equivalent
  • 4-6 years of Electrical Engineering experience
  • Troubleshooting and testing experience
  • Experience with AutoCAD, with the ability to develop, review and maintain electrical drawings (One-line, elevation, loops, PLC)
  • Understanding of Hazardous Area Classification
  • Understanding of relevant electrical codes, including NFPA 70 & 70E
  • Strong communication skills; oral, written and presentation
  • Strong understanding of industrial instrumentation
  • Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards
  • A true team player with demonstrated ability to work well with others and be continuously reliable
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Helpful background:

  • Broad familiarity with a range of engineering disciplines: Chemical, Mechanical, Software & Electrical
  • Strong understanding of troubleshooting PLCs
  • Plant experience is a must
  • Experience with plant process control, safety interlocks, and automation
  • Direct experience with chemical process design, implementation & operation
  • Experience in an R&D environment, helping to design, optimize & commercialize new technologies is a plus
  • Knowledge of Delta V programming is a plus
